Hi there. In the southern region we have been working for a few months on a table to guide Managers, Preceptors and Learners about what undergraduate students (RN or EN) and CAP candidates can or can’t be involved in (e.g. oral administration versus IV versus CVAD etc.). This has been a collaboration between the local education providers and the SDHB IV CNS’s, in the interests of clarity, standardisation and patient safety. I wondered does anybody else have anything similar as I’d be really interested in hearing about your successes or pitfalls and knowing how it is going or sharing our table. Thanks – Kerry Davis, Dunedin.
Late to the party sorry Kerry, how did you get on with this project? I have a document with our TEPs currently waiting for their input to what levels they want the different routes of administration and level of involvement. Once I hear back from them I will combine what the departments have filled in and come up with a hospital policy regarding student medication administration.
Thanks Katrina – I’d be really interested in comparing once you have this finalized. Thank you. We are going well – through several iterations now but it’s a lot clinical areas, Preceptors and students.
