What We Do

Intravenous Nursing New Zealand Incorporated Society (IVNNZ Inc.) is a voluntary organisation promoting excellence in infusion therapy practice, by all health professionals, delivering health care to the population of Aotearoa, New Zealand.

IVNNZ Inc. was founded in October 1993 with the primary focus of establishing infusion therapy as a speciality in nursing practice. The focus now encompasses all health professionals.

IVNNZ Inc. endorses the current set of standards offered by the Infusion Nurses Society (INS) of the United States of America (USA). IVNNZ Inc., through affiliation to INS, acknowledges these standards provide excellence in all areas of infusion practice relevant to our New Zealand population.

The mission statement was introduced in 1995 and remains pivotal to the organisation today.

While infusion therapy standards of practice is an integral part of physical care we acknowledge the spiritual, whānau/family and mental health needs of the health consumer. In addition to this we also value equity in health and the importance of partnership and therapeutic relationships. IVNNZ continued to grow steadily, introducing initiatives such as developing a framework for IV and related therapies, education workshops and promoted a monitoring process for I.V.T. certification for Registered Nurses.

IVNNZ Inc. has gained recognition nationally, being included in such groups as DHBNZ Safe and Quality Use of Medicines, as a key stakeholder.

IVNNZ Inc. are invited to participate in national governance groups and committees representing intravenous and related management, such as National Intestinal Failure (NIF) Governance and PHARMAC.
